Michael and I have been blessed to be able to travel quite a bit since we got married, but our trip to Italy in the spring of 2008 will stand out as a trip of a lifetime. We began planning it about 6 months in advance, and got our passports updated, bought our tickets and began planning our itinerary. We even took an Italian class. We were very excited to have the help of our dear friend Debra Cheverino, who has been living in Florence for the past 5 years. So, what can I say? We packed in as much as possible into the two weeks we had. We saw Rome (the ruins, the Christian catacombs, the fountains, the Vatican), Florence (the Duomo, Pitti Palace, the Renaissance architecture, the Ponte Vecchio, Michaelangelo's David), Tuscany (the countryside, Medieval cities, the hot springs of Saturnia), Venice (the canals, St. Mark's, Murano glass blowers, the Doge's palace), the Amalfi Coast (Sorrento, Positano, the Island of Capri & the hike of the Gods),
and the ancient city of Pompeii. It was incredible--the adventures we had, the food we ate, the places we stayed, the stunning beauty of the landscape and the architecture, the people we met, the opportunity to speak Italian, and the chance to spend time with our dear friends in their own country. We were happy to come home, but the experience of the Italian peninsula will stay with us forever.
